Secrets management comparison

GitOps Vault vs Infisical

Both protect application secrets. The difference is what you operate underneath. GitOps Vault uses your Git repository as an encrypted data store; Infisical uses a traditional database stack.

Always-free Cloud. Completely free Self-Hosted. No per-identity fees.

Simple pricing

Flat pricing by company size

Every plan includes Vault, Code Report and State IaC. No per-identity charges, and server tokens do not move you into a higher tier.

Price comparison

10 developers + 5 server tokens

In Infisical, an identity is a person or a machine that authenticates. Ten developers are 10 user identities. Five server tokens with different access scopes are 5 machine identities: 15 identities in total.

GitOps Vault uses the 10-person company size, so the Pro plan costs $5/month. The 5 server tokens add $0.

Machine identities can be shared by servers with identical permissions. This example assumes each token has a separate permission set.

Choose GitOps Vault for simplicity

A focused vault with environments, folders, RBAC, CLI and API, backed by infrastructure your engineering team already understands.

Choose Infisical for breadth

A mature platform for secrets, certificates and privileged access, with advanced enterprise capabilities on paid tiers.

Compare the complete cost

Software price is only one line item. Database, cache, backups and operating time also belong in a self-hosting decision.

A practical feature comparison

Based on publicly documented features and pricing. GitOps Vault is in beta, so its scope is intentionally narrower.

The database is not free to run

For a small self-hosted deployment, even the lowest-cost managed PostgreSQL instance creates a recurring bill. Production high availability, Redis, backups, network traffic and application compute increase it further.

Questions

GitOps Vault and Infisical FAQ

Is GitOps Vault a direct replacement for Infisical?

It can replace Infisical for teams managing application secrets through environments, folders, RBAC, an API and a CLI. Infisical remains the stronger fit when you need dynamic secrets, PKI, privileged access management or enterprise identity features today.

What does Infisical mean by identity?

An Infisical identity is a person or machine that authenticates to the platform. A developer counts as one user identity. Servers, applications and pipelines use machine identities, generally one for each distinct permission set. GitOps Vault Pro pricing is based on company user count, not identities, so server tokens do not increase the price.

Is GitOps Vault free?

Yes. GitOps Vault Cloud has an always-free plan, and GitOps Vault Self-Hosted is completely free with no license fees. Cloud Pro plans will launch before the beta ends.

Why can GitOps Vault cost less to self-host?

GitOps Vault uses a Git repository as its data backend. If your team already has an included private repository, the incremental storage cost can be zero. A production Infisical deployment typically uses PostgreSQL and Redis, which add infrastructure and operational costs.

Does GitOps Vault store plaintext secrets in Git?

No. Vault data is encrypted before it is stored in the configured Git repository. Exported .env files and API credentials should never be committed.
